May 8, 2009 Storm hits Norwood Post Office
Posted on May 8, 2009

The storm that hit the Ozarks on the morning of May 8, 2009 took may trees and power poles down. Power outages were rampant across the Ozarks and Norwood was well hit.. Several trees landed in peoples homes and across the roads making travel difficult.. The above photo is the roof of the Norwood Post Office laying upside down and scattered across several power lines. Luckily no one was injured. Power failed just before 10:00 a. m. for most of the area and was not expected to be restored to all until at least sometime on the 9th.
If you have photos of the storm damage that you wish to share with us please contact the blogmaster by keaving a comment.

Norwood School Bus Accident
Posted on March 25, 2009

This is the scene about 8:15 a.m. on March 25, 2009 as one of the Norwood School buses slid off the roadway because of mud . The bus was almost fully loaded with students and a tragedy was narrowly avoided. There were only some minor bumps, bruises and cuts. It could have been much worse. The bus driver was able to keep the bus from overturning off the bridge and that would certainly have led to tragedy. The accident occured on Retherford Road northwest of Norwood.

These photos were taken a few minutes after another bus had taken the students on to school.

The above photos were taken the morning after the accident after the bus was in town.

The above photos were taken the morning after the accident after the bus was in town.

This photo was taken with me standing approx where the rear of the bus stopped.

This photo looks down and the bus was siting over this spot. You can see how far a roll it would have been if the bus has rolled on over. It was a very narrowly missed tragedy.
If you look at the top photo closely you can see how much mud there was from the tracks in the mud and the bottom two photos show the new gravel that the county road board has added since the event.
Norwood High Earns Award As One of Nation's Best Schools

It was recently brought to the attention of the Norwood R-I School District that Norwood High School has been cited in a national publication for being one of the best high schools in the nation.
In collaboration with School Evaluation Services – a K-12 education and data research and analysis business – U.S. News and World Report analyzed academic and enrollment data from more than 21,000 high schools in 48 states to find the best public high schools.
In the 2009 U.S. News and World Report America's Best High Schools, a three-step methodology was used to rate the schools. This data and research comes from Standard & Poor's, and is based on the key principles that a great high school must serve all students well, not just those who plan to attend college, and the school must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show that the school is successfully educating the student body across a range of performance indicators.
