Nine years ago today, 9-9-99, would change my life forever. It was a Thursday. I had a some type of FBLA or FCCLA meeting at school and had to be dressed up. I came home tired and took a shower and took down my hair. I didn't even bother to put on make up. I threw on my old volleyball sweatshirt and put my hair up in a pony tail. My mom and I were getting ready for our weekly night at bingo. Mom told me that I shouldn't have changed. She said "you never know who you'll meet at bingo". I replied that there was no one but old people at bingo. Just a few games before halftime this handsome young man walks in. I knew right away who he was, the callers son! He walked past my chair and my mother told me that I might actually win of I'd spend more time looking at my cards than I did at boys. I was so embarrassed because I thought he had heard. I started asking the other girls at the table what he was like and they all teased me. At halftime they sent me up to the pull tab table where he was sitting with his mother. I was too embarrassed to stay long. I walked back to the table, gave the girls their tabs and told them I was going outside for some air. Apparently after I went outside a girl at our table, Robin, went up to this young man and told him he was wanted outside. He came out and I just smiled at him. We didn't say anything for several minutes until finally I told him my name he told me his name was Jacob. At this point the games were getting ready to start up and I told Jacob that I would give him my phone number. We walked back in together and he sat next to me the rest of the evening. I took out a small piece of paper and I wrote my name and my phone number on it. He called me the next day and the rest is history. To this day Jacob still carries that small piece of paper in his wallet.
I love you Jacob. It's not our "wedding anniversary" but happy 9 years together.
